In order to help our Embassy Community better understand some key points about Ebola virus we consulted with our medical specialists at the U S State Department & assembled this list below, worded in plain language for easy understanding. The suspected reservoirs for Ebola are fruit bats. Transmission to humans is thought to originate from infected bats or primates that have become infected by bats. Undercooked infected bat and primate (bush) meat transmits the virus to humans. . Human to human transmission is only achieved by physical contact with a person who is acutely and gravely ill from Ebola virus or their body fluids. Transmission among humans is almost exclusively among caregiver family members or health care workers tending to the very ill. . The virus is easily killed by contact with soap, bleach, sunlight, or drying. A washing machine will kill the virus in clothing saturated with infected body fluids. . A person can incubate the virus without symptoms for 2-21 days, the average being 5-8 days before becoming ill. THEY ARE NOT CONTAGIOUS until they are acutely ill. . Only when ill does the viral load express itself first in the blood and other bodily fluids (e.g vomit, feaces, urine, breast milk, semen and sweat). . If you are walking around you are not infectious to others. . There r documented cases from Kikwit, DRC of an Ebola outbreak in a village that had the custom of children never touching an ill adult.Children living for days in one room huts with parents who died from Ebola did not become infected. . You cant contract Ebola by handling money or swimming in a pool.

bowen university's vc side of the story

Authorities of the Bowen University, Iwo, yesterday shut down the institution and ordered the students to vacate the campus immediately following a student disturbance on Wednesday over alleged incessant power outage and epileptic water supply.
The students had gone on rampage at about 8.30pm on Wednesday to protest poor power and water supply, which, they complained had resulted in personal hardship in the past few weeks.
The protest, however, turned violent with reports of damage to school property and looting of some traders’ shops and facilities, forcing the authorities to invite the police that eventually quelled the riot.
Ten of the rioters were arrested by the police for alleged looting.
But, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Matthew Ojo, in an interview with Daily Sun, gave a different version of the incident.
According to him, the immediate cause of the demonstration was the disruption of the viewing of a European League match on TV by some of the students in one of the male hostels, due to an electrical fault on Wednesday night.
This reportedly angered the spectators, who trooped out and started demonstrating.
The Vice Chancellor denied that there was ever inadequate power supply on campus, disclosing that the management provide at least 13-hours supply on standby generator on daily basis.
He equally said there were 20 functional boreholes, located around the campus, with water running 24 hours in two of the halls of residence (new male and female hostels), while water was pumped to other critical areas at least for six hours a day.
Justifying the closure of the school and a 10-day forced break for the students, Prof Ojo said this became imperative due to their recalcitrant attitude to allow peace and order to reign.
“They are pressing for the release of their colleagues who were arrested by the police for breaking into other people’s shops and looting under the guise of the riot a condition to stop fomenting trouble.
“As management, we have undertaken to go and bail them, but, this is a criminal matter that the police have a right to handle their own way and there can’t be dictating to law enforcement agency. So, we have asked them to go home for a 10 day-break and come back,” he said.
The Baptist-owned university resumed session barely three and half weeks ago. Semester examinations are not however, due until May 29, it was learnt.

Bowen Riot: “Our VC Treats Us Like Prisoners” – Bowen University Students Riot & Vandalize School

Students of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun state took matters into their hands as they protested the reign of current VC, Matthew Ojo.
The students, who had had enough of Ojo’s Nazi-like regime, started a riot at about 9pm on Wednesday night, destroying cars, street lights, shops, windows and even burnt part of some buildings.
According to a source at the University, Ojo had brought in rules that were not favorable to student life in the least.
The VC had reportedly denied the students basic amenities, giving them food and light only in restricted periods.
“You can’t eat except at stipulated hours,” the source said. “You fill statement forms if you’re caught eating. No break time in between classes to support the food timetable though. So if your class falls during the eating period, you’re not eating.”
He also infringed on their health rights, denying students access to healthcare after 6pm.
With all these, it’s easy to see why the students would have been forced to carry out their actions.

THE trial of the three Lebanese suspects

THE trial of the three Lebanese suspects, Mustapha Fawaz, Abdallah Tahini and Talal Ahmad Roda, who are standing trial before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, began on Wednesday, just as the Department of State Security (DSS) tendered eight DVDs of different interview sessions with the suspects.
The first accused person, Mustapha Fawaz, during his own interview session as shown in the video clip admitted to taking aerial pictures of strategic buildings in Abuja from the Sheraton building.
He said in the interview that he was able to do that with some foreigners, whom he could no longer identify, adding that he conducted the said foreigners round Abuja in a bid to locate the Israeli Embassy.
The DVD copies, which were tendered before Justice Ademola Adeniyi by Simon Egede, Director of Public Prosecution, on behalf of the Federal Government, were, however,  admitted in evidence by the court.
Though, the defence counsel, Chief Robert Clarke,  did not object to the admissibility of the DVDs discs and the statement of the prosecuting witness 10 for purpose of relevancy, he said he would challenge the credibility of the DVDs.
Following the court’s granting of Egede’s application to play the video clips of the interview sessions with the Lebanese suspects, the prosecuting witness, a technical staff of the Department of State Service tagged DSS 10 was called upon to play the DVDs for the court.
In the first video clip played on a projector, DSS 10 in hood identified the suspect being interviewed as Talal Rhoda, the third accused person who was found and arrested at 3 Gaya Road, Kano, on May 26, 2013.
The interview session revealed that Rhoda admitted having knowledge of the existence of a bunker underground in the house he was found and arrested in Kano; just as the video showed his admission that he serviced the weapons hidden underneath the bunker from time to time.
Similarly, the first accused person, Mustapha Fawaz, during his own interview session as shown in the video clip, had admitted taking aerial pictures of strategic buildings in Abuja from the Sheraton building.
